PART 2
MY QUEST FOR THE SAND isn’t over yet.
I thought I had a great plan: shorten the distance between stopper and bottom weight so to get as close to the bottom as possible. My safety @ghataswaleed dropped the rope all the way and pulled up a little just to get it off the bottom, and according to the rope we had 93 meters. This time my equalization was perfect and I easily got to the end but out of habit my left hand stopped at the stopper, so my head was at the level of the bottom weight and my right hand was another half meter below that but it wasn’t enough to reach the sand. I tried to wave my hand around a bit even if I could see with my distorted view (I use fluid goggles so distances are hard to judge) that the bottom was another good meter below my hand.
If you are not yet tired of silly freediving tales and the mindfekery going on in a freediver’s brain, here’s another piece of the story:
Before my dive I started stressing about what to do with the sand once i grabbed it: since I swim up with bifins with my arms over my head, I’d have to keep one fist closed, and remember not to use that hand for grabbing the buoy and removing goggles and noseclip once I surfaced. As I was visualising it I remembered that I just did legs workout for 2 days in a row, and that my legs being pretty sore I thought I might have to do part of my ascent on free immersion, which would have to be either on a single arm or I’d have to let go of the sand. Then I decided I would improvise because it was just getting too ridiculous and I got annoyed with myself.
In the end I got no sand and my legs were fresh the whole way up which was amazing for me. The other good thing is that my dives are getting shorter without me trying: I used to need 3:20 for the mid 80’ies and now I have the same dive time for the mid 90’ies.
